The management of the Museum of Oriental Art in Genoa, "Edoardo Chiossone", is glad to invite you at the opening of the new photo exhibition, on show from 23/06/10 to 31/10/10. It is a collection of pictures, illustrating the life and the rituals of the Zen monks belonging to the Rinzai School in the Zuiganji monastery.
Founded in the year 828 by the monk Jigaku Daishi and renovated as we see it today back in the Momoyama age (1573-1603), the Zuiganji templar complex has been declared part of the National Heritage Committee.
It is located in Matsushima, a beautiful area along the coast in the region of Miyagi, facing a bay where there are more than 260 little islands covered in vegetation and pine trees and known as one of the Nihon sankei, the three most beautiful landscapes all over Japan.
The spiritual tradition of this temple and the amazing sea surroundings along the Matsushima Bay have helped this area in becoming an importation location for religious pilgrims for over 1000 years, and more recently a touristic destination.
