And it is already time for chiacchiere and bugie, typical Italian sweets for Carnival, confetti and streamers, masks and fun fair. On Feb 16th it is Mardi Gras and on Feb 18th Carnival ends. The Locanda di Palazzo Cicala is the perfect venue both for the Carnival parade and for the South American Carnival which will take place at the Porto Antico.
From Feb 18th to Feb 26th the Porto Antico gets animated by South American colors and atmosphere: food stands, street exhibitions, South-American dancers and bands, interesting workshops for children will "color" the Porto Antico area. Dances will start on Saturday Feb 18th when a Carnival parade, in pure Rio De Janeiro style, with Carnival masks and floats will go from Piazza Matteotti though Via San Lorenzo down to the Porto Antico, which will be the main venue for the whole time.
On the floats you will see dance teachers from the Asd Nuovo Contatto Latino, which will involve local people and tourists to try their dances. Anyone is welcome to join the parade, which will leave Piazza Matteotti at 3 pm. Once the Porto Antico has been reached, more South-American dances will follow with the teacher Rafael Zavas, with country music and swing, Brazilian percussions and Capoeira dance & fight.
