About Hotels Genoa

Genoa doesn't get the attention it deserves. Overshadowed by Florence, Rome and the Cinque Terre further down the coast, "la Superba" has one of the largest and best-preserved historic centres in Europe, a genuinely dramatic waterfront, and centuries of maritime wealth built into its palazzi — and most visitors to Italy still skip straight past it.

Why we built this

Hotels Genoa grew out of a simple wish to put Genoa properly on the map for English-speaking travellers — starting with Locanda di Palazzo Cicala, a beautiful 16th-century palazzo right on Piazza San Lorenzo, and its five individually named apartments, and expanding out from there into the old town, the port, the surrounding neighbourhoods, and the wider Ligurian coast. Our aim is to give people a genuine reason to stop in Genoa rather than just changing trains through it on the way to Cinque Terre or Portofino.

A history of the palazzo and its apartments, a guide to the landmarks within walking distance, the city's genuinely recurring cultural highlights (Rolli Days, the Genoa Film Festival), what to eat, and where else to stay if you want a different part of the city. We've also put together practical day trips along the coast — Portofino, Camogli, the Cinque Terre — for anyone using Genoa as a base to explore further afield.
